Barry Sutherland
His interest in cars and all things mechanical began at an early age. He enjoyed working on cars, racing cars and restoring classics just as much as playing basketball. Barry and his wife Lisa were born raised and attended Cheshire schools. Barry first began his career as a mechanic in 1972 working for Genest Subaru in Cheshire. From 1979 -1981 barry work for acclaimed racing company "Special Vehicle Design" owned by Bill Mitchell where they designed and built everything and anything to do with muscle cars, they even built a vehicle for the original cannonball run and in 1980 he worked on a Daytona 24 hour race car. When the opportunity became available in 1982 he opened Barry’s Auto on South Main Street. In 1986 the garage moved to Waterbury Road, and finally all things came full circle in 2000 when Barry’s Auto moved next to the former Genest building on Highland Avenue.
Barry’s Auto is all about family. Barry’s wife Lisa is the bookkeeper and together they raised five children in Cheshire. Their two eldest sons Brian and Michael now work alongside their father. Barry’s Autos success is attributed to his reputation of being an honest and fair business that has been grounded in the Cheshire community for over 30 years.
